Who Are You If Not Your Thoughts? - From The Hypnotherapist's Perspective

Most people believe that they are the following ‘six parts of the mind.’
1. Thoughts
2. Emotions
3. Feelings
4. Desires
5. Instincts
6. intuitions
However, what if I were to tell you that you are none of these things? Well, what I mean is that the true ‘you,’ is none of these things.
The question is then, what are we? And who are we if we are none of these six parts of the mind? Because most people would say that those six parts of the mind are exactly who we are. So, what are we, and who are we if not those six things?
The truth is that the real you, is something far more special.
The real you, is your actual awareness.
In particular, the awareness of those six parts of the mind.
This idea becomes clearer when you realise that you don’t control the six parts of the mind, for the most part. Generally speaking, they are something that is happening to you, rather than you making them happen. In this sense, the real you is the observer of the six parts of the mind.
Question: How do you know you’re experiencing thoughts, emotions, feelings, desires, instincts, and intuitions?
The answer: Because you become aware of them, you observe them in your mind. The real ‘you’ is the experiencer of those six parts of the mind. But these six things aren’t you, and you aren’t them. In this sense, they work for you. They might not always be helpful; it is what you do with them that determines whether they are helpful or unhelpful in your life.
You could say that the real ‘you’ has 3 distinct parts:
1. Observer – the part of your mind that is observing everything. This includes mental observation (six parts of the mind), physical observation (over the body, such as hunger, thirst, and tension), and external observation (the five senses).
2. Awareness – the part of your mind that actually becomes aware of things; this means the things you observe actually reach your conscious awareness. I would also include your mental focus in this category.
3. Response – You actually have control over your reactions and responses to things. This includes your response to your mental observation, physical, and external. Your ability to respond can give you the power over your choices, decision-making, behaviours, and can change habits over time.
This is a powerful thing to understand and integrate into your daily life. But it does take practice to successfully integrate within yourself. It can give you more clarity into your mental processes, but also more control over yourself and your life.
As always, I appreciate you taking the time to read my work.
